Kimono Pics~!

I wore kimono the other day! It's a tradition to wear kimonos in New Year in Japan. or I would say it used to be. Not many people wear kimono these days but I love wearing kimono and since I have some, I try to wear them as much as I can. Many people say it is so tight and too tiring to wear kimonos but I don't mind at all.

My sister and I wore kimono together and we went to visit our grand parent's place. We were a little embarresed on the way cause many people looked at us in kimono. My dad looked pretty happy this day. I was happy too:) My mom was tired putting kimonos on us and my sis looked exhausted wearing the kimono. She wanted to take it off as soon as possible.

Very nice pics of you and your sister in kimonos. The one you are wearing looks very detailed did your parents make? Or did you buy from a department store.

I was wondering about why people dont wear kimonos that much, thanks for the information. Its weird because I went to fire works festival last year and everyone was wearing but could that be because I was in country town? The festival was about an hour and a half from Niigata city and was said to be the biggest one in Japan. I wore one also and it was a little different from the one on myspace (and allot more expensive).

It was cool because I got allot of free beer form the Japanese guys that were selling in the street because they love the fact that a tall black guy was wearing very nice kimono.

I dont really know about the different types and styles aside from jumbe and yukata but if you have any input it will be appreacited.

Setsuna,

yes, it's a pity that not many people don't wear kimonos these days. Probably because it takes time and expencive to wear it. If you have kimono and have someone to put it on for you, maybe people will wear it. But the important thing is, you need to like it. My sister said she would never wear it again cause it is too tiring. I used to wear kimonos often when I was little and loved wearing it so I always looking forward for the occasion. My mom can do the kimonos so she did it for us. I think it has a lot to do with your family too. If your parents are traditional japanese family and have the custom wearing it sometime, then that will come down to the child. Since more and more parents have no custom wearing kimonos, more and more kids have no interests and chance of wearing them.

The one you saw in summer festival, that's yukata not kimono. yukata is for summer. a lot more lighter and easy to wear. kimono is a lot more expensice. It costs millions(yen) and no end to it. Many jp girls like wearing yukata. I wear that in summer festivals too! so it's not just country side.

Did you see the other pics in my photo album? there's more in it so check there too!
